Lost Sons
by Judy Clemens
Fictional character, Detective Stan Windemere’s son, a sailor in the U. S. Navy is missing in Russia. Taking a job in the MCC warehouse, he learns of Clayton Kratz, a non-fictional son who also disappeared in Russia in 1920. Stan and his wife Rose, each in their own way, try to prepare themselves for the truth that Jamie, like Kratz, may never return home. “Offers poignant parallels and probing questions about serving God and country, and conversation between pacifists and military families.” This book is of special interest to those of us who knew the author and her family as former Perkasie Mennonite members.
The Family Song
by Jane Hoober Peifer
Every day the Stranowsky family joyously sang their favorite song. As the family grew they sang even more enthusiastically. When the neighbors joined them the song was sung in different languages simultaneously. Then one day things went haywire - mother was sick, the toilet leaked, a policeman came to the door and the baby wailed. The grumpiest of neighbors demanded they sing “the song” and they did, changing the words to fit the situation. This exuberant bi-racial family reminds readers that God is with them all the time. A CD of the song is included.
The Way Back Home
by Spencer Krane
Spencer Krane, New York attorney, returns to Florida and the town where he grew up when his grandmother suffers a stroke. An intended short stay becomes a longer one as Spencer renews relationships and reconnects with the faith of his childhood. A gentle story of family and friendship starring Julie Harris, Ruby Dee and Michael King. (DVD)
